A hyper hyphenate, Argentina’s Adrian Suar ranks as its biggest movie star, plus CEO of Pol-ka Producciones, the country’s largest TV producer which he founded in 1994, and program head at Artear’s Canal 13, the flagship channel of one of Argentina’s two dominant TV networks, which co-owns Patagonik Film Group, its most successful home-market movie producer.
Such multi-tasking places Suar in a driving seat in Argentina’s content revolution, as the country builds its own movie industry and begins to shape premium content for a SVOD age. It also makes him a natural ally of Hollywood studios and big regional players who are anxious to form part of the fiction game change.
The alliances range across film and TV. Disney teamed with Pol-ka to produce “Violetta,” a teen soap sensation in Latin America and Southern Europe. Star of four smash hit romantic comedies, produced by Patagonik, a joint Disney-Artear venture, and distributed by Disney, Suar is currently producing via Pol-ka teen drama “Love, Divina” with Televisa and Federation, while Pol-ka is co-producing premium edged fiction with Cablevision and Turner and HBO Latin America. Suar’s challenge is now to leverage Argentina’s attractive content cost/return ratios on a larger scale than just the domestic market.
